What is metallization?
The term “metallization” is defined as the deposition of a thin metal coating on a selected surface by a specific technique
One of the basic and most popular techniques of applying metallic layers to the elements is vacuum metallization. Its main purpose is to give surfaces the appearance of polished or mat metal. Thanks to this method, it is possible to obtain the exterior of gold, silver, chrome or other metallic shades of any color.
The generated low pressure allows the metal particles to pass from the vaporization source towards the surface, to be coated without encountering air and other gas particles obstruction.
The coating that we apply to specific surfaces retains its characteristic features as well as aesthetic and practical functions.
The most popular and most common industrial version of metallization is the one that we use to deposit an aluminum on the surface of objects. The use of this technology is also possible on molds made of plastic, glass and metal.
It is estimated that more than half of the currently performed metallization operations are the ones increasing the aesthetic level of objects. In recent years, however, there is a growing demand for an ecological method of metallization in industrial areas, as opposed to the classic technology of electronic chrome plating. Also, the cost of vacuum metallization is much more favorable than traditional methods of coating everyday objects.
